Regional Centers for Professional Development of Education Personnel have been established under the Professional Development Program (PDP) thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 24th 2003 between the Swiss Government (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) and the Serbian Government (Ministry of Education).
Uzice Regional Center (RCU) as a municipal institution responsible for professional development of education personnel in its region has been established in the year 2006 by the Municipality of Uzice, in accordance with the Strategy document 2005-2010 issued by The Ministry of Education, Republic of Serbia.
MISSION:
Introduce comprehensive, coordinated professional development system which delivers up-to-date support programs to schools and individual teachers.
Contribute to development of high-professional, creative education staff, promoting and fostering a continuous self-enhancement, self-evaluation, evaluation, and permanent development of the education system in Serbia.
GOAL:
Decentralized system of professional development for education personnel: system which supports the national policy of education enhancement and is receptive of the needs of the region, individual schools and those employed in education.
PURPOSE:
The Center provides guidelines, coordinates and monitors the professional development system, develops standards of knowledge, skills and competences for professionals in education and supports institutions dealing with education
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
RC implements the strategy of professional development of school staff in its region, in accordance with the national Strategy as set by the Center for Professional Development (CPD).
RC prepares and delivers the annual support programs to school and individual teachers. The programs of the Center are tailored so as to meet the specific needs of the region.
In implementing its activities, the Center focuses on:
- organization of training courses (venue, information, training provider, etc)
- provision of training facilities (and accommodation)
- establishment and operation of a resource centre
- data collection on training courses/training needs assessment
- monitoring of the implementation and of the results of training programs
- analysis and development of training programs
- close co-operation with schools and other institution dealing with education; co-operation with local community, Institute for Education Promotion / Center for professional Development and the Ministry of Education / Regional Department.
What the Regional Center offers to its beneficiaries:
- Venues for training courses;
- Resource center: librarymediatheque well-provided with reference books, methodic-didactic, pedagogical-psychological materials, tools and documents - printed, video and audio formats;
- Information point: printed and/or on-line brochures and/or documents providing detailed information on the programs accredited by the Institute for Education Promotion / Center for Professional Development;
- A place where to monitor and evaluate the quality and the progress of their professional development;
- A meeting place where to exchange their professional experiences
BENEFICIARIES:
Education staff in the region: schools and other institutions and/or individuals dealing with education.
What is the school like we need?
What is the school like the pupils need? What is the school the teachers need? What about the parents?
In a recent research of their opinions and needs, Uzice secondary schools™ students gave the following answers to the question What is the school like we need:
The school where the knowledge is acquired; where the teachers are not retelling the lessons from the textbooks; where the teachers teach us how to think and allow us to disagree with some issues, even if we are young; where the teachers make authority based on their knowledge, not on their position; the school which is to draw our attention; where we are understood; where we are well-instructed and oriented; the school in which the teachers should explain the reasons for how they grade us; where we are free to ask the questions of interest to us; where they teach us how to find and use the reference books; where they judge us for what we are doing, not for what we are wearing in the school; where we are respected, even being the pupils.
It is obvious the children wish the school in which the order rules, the school which allows them to freely express themselves. Naturally, the pupils mostly link their expectations to the teachers. And to whom (or to what) the parents and the teachers can rely on? What is the school they need or would like to experience?
That is what all of us have to think over, together, right now, in order to quickly find an answer to the initial question: key-answer to open the doors of the future for our children and for the (second) childhood of the World.
